Featuring Victoria Baker
Being in front of the camera can be daunting to all of us so being prepared is key. An engagement shoot is one way to alleviate any nerves and build rapport with your photographer to capture those perfect, candid moments on the day.
You certainly should discuss the possibility with your partner and Victoria Baker , a talented local photographer from Bridgetown has been kind enough to give us an insight into the why you should be having an engagement photoshoot before the wedding day.
Victoria specialises in wedding photography and has photographed and captured multiple weddings and engagements throughout the Southwest, so she is the perfect person to help us out!

1. Try Before you Buy..
“First and foremost – it is seriously important to me that I am a good fit with my clients. I like to get to know my clients and the story that goes with them. My aim is for them to be completely comfortable around me and my camera. This is an excellent opportunity to get to know me, see how I work and how you see yourselves in my style of photography.”
2. Practice Makes Perfect
“An engagement photography session is like a rehearsal for the bridal portraits. The majority of us are not models and the thought of a camera in our faces can be really daunting. By doing an engagement photography session, you can get rid of any anxiety and become completely at ease in front of the camera. You will get to know your photographer better, understand their direction and exactly what is expected of you. Grooms in particular can find the idea of wedding photos a bit overwhelming and this is an opportunity for them to realise that it can actually be really fun. I mean hey, let’s grab a beer and go on an adventure? Whats not to like about that?!”
3. You Will Have Some Awesome Pics!
“By doing an engagement shoot, you will have some great photography of the two of you, to use on anything wedding orientated whether that be a website, save-the-date cards or a wedding guest book. I am sure the Parents and Grandparents wouldn’t mind a few copies too, seeing as this is probably the first professional photoshoot of the two of you as a couple.”
4. Hair & Makeup Trial
“It is a really good idea to trial your wedding look and have your hair and makeup done for your engagement photography session. This way you can see how it photographs and check that you’re 100% happy with it.”
5. Engagement Shoots Have No Limits
“You can bring your pets! You can wear what you want! And we can go wherever. Often wedding photos are constrained by distance and time. I encourage my couples to choose a special spot that they can’t get to on their wedding day. This can make the pics so much more meaningful.”
